Married to the Military Monday- 'No Dough Dinner'

For this weeks edition of Military Monday, I would like to tell you about 'No Dough Dinner.' I have mentioned this before, but I would like to explain a little bit about what it is.

'No Dough Dinner' is hosted by the USO. Every other Monday we go to the USO for dinner. 'No Dough Dinner' is a free dinner for active duty military and their dependents. This free dinner can be sponsored by anybody who is willing to provide the dinner. This could be a society, such as the Lions Club, a local church, or even the new chief selects.

The dinner is catered in or homemade. You could eat anything from Bono's Barbecue or Papa John's pizza, to homemade chicken n' dumplings or spaghetti. There is generally a salad bar, a dessert bar and unlimited tea and kool-aid.One of my favorite meals is the breakfast for dinner bar!

'No Dough Dinnner' is not always delicious. You might eat something that you have never made at home, or something you would never serve your children at home. Just think of it is a way to stretch your budget or simply take a night off. We sit and talk over dinner knowing that we don't have to clean the kitchen or open our wallets when dinner is over.

My family and I like to come home, take our showers, and head to 'No Dough Dinner' together. Just for fun, we place bets on what we think will be for dinner that night. It's always fun to tell people that I have no idea what is for dinner that night. Sure, I could find out before hand , but that wouldn't be as fun.

That's all for this weeks edition of Married to the Military Monday. If you're in the military, check out 'No Dough Dinner' where you are. Even if you're not in the military, find out how you can help sponsor an upcoming 'No Dough Dinner.'

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Married to the Military Monday- OC Spray

Chances are, if you or your spouse is in the military, you have heard of OC spray... If not, you need to get prepared. If you're a spouse reading this, I am going to tell you how to take care of your man after he gets sprayed. First here is little bit of much needed information for you :

OC spray is short for Oleoresin Capsicum. This military grade stuff is more potent than ordinary pepper spray.OC has become more popular over the years due to the fact that it has been proven more effective than its predecessors. It is oil based, not water based. Capsicum is not soluble in water, and even large volumes of water will not wash it off.

In the military, a dry-run training leads to the actual spraying and demonstration of skills for self-defense.When sprayed for training you are generally encouraged to blink vigorously in order to encourage tears, to help flush the irritant from the eyes. The taste and intense burning sensation in the eyes or face is unpleasant, to say the least. The guys have related the pain to being stuck in the face with needles, and some say they would be better off having peppers, or hot sauce, rubbed in their eyes. During OC training, specific learning objectives are set forth where the trainees learn how to fight through OC induced blindness by rapid blinking. They learn how to transition to performing various empty-handed skills like punches or knee strikes and/or using less-lethal technologies like a baton to protect themselves, as well as their firearm, from an attacker. After being sprayed across the face, the OC spray will begin to run into the eyes as the trainee works their way through a course of "attackers."

If you happen to witness this training first-hand, you may hear a lot of swear words, or see a grown man cry.

There are several methods that can be used to deal with the pain of being sprayed in the face. You may read, or hear, suggestions to use things such as milk, Maalox, or the ever popular suggestion to use a no-tears formula of baby shampoo. Comforting the pain will be the first thought for a person who has been sprayed. The main thing you need to focus on is getting that stuff out of the eyes, and off the skin. Don't think that using a lot of water is going to accomplish this.

The last time my husband was sprayed he did use baby shampoo. We turned on the A/C in the car full blast, and he immediately stuck his face into the air. We thought we were doing everything we could possibly do. He was in an uncomfortable amount pain, and we just wanted to ease that discomfort. The next day he was still experiencing side-effects. Well, we found something that works very well. This is what we used this time:

Meet Dawn Plus Hand Renewal with Vitamin E.This stuff was fantastic! I put some of this in a shot glass and poured a little bit of water over it. Then, I folded some paper towels into squares, (just big enough to fit over the cup and the eyes,) and held the shot glass upside down over the paper towels. I shook it back and forth to coat the paper towels. On the way home, my husband used these as eye patches. He immediately began to feel better and could open his eyes up. After we got home, he vigorously washed his face with this stuff. He recovered much more quickly this time. Unlike several people that my husband works with, he went to work the next day with no signs of being sprayed. We are both very grateful that we have found something that truly works. As a matter of fact, we went out to eat that evening.

I was not paid by Dawn or compensated in any way for telling y'all about this. I am truly telling y'all about this for your knowledge. I know how uncomfortable my husband was when he was sprayed, before we knew about this. I want to help other people experience the same recovery time period that my husband did this time. We will definitely have this on hand for the next time my husband gets sprayed or wiped.

Just be prepared for this to happen. It is not a case of if the military will be exposed to OC spray either directly or indirectly but rather when it will happen to them on the job. Consequently, the military have to learn how to survive and win in an actual OC environment that they, or someone else, has exposed them to.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

It's time for the MilSpouse Friday Fill-In. I am linking up with Wife of a Sailor. It's a great way for Military Spouses to get to visit each others blogs and get to know about each other. Each week Wife of a Sailor posts five questions for us to answer. We post them on our blog, and then go link-up to Wife of a Sailor's blog. Here are the five questions, and my answers this week:

1) Were you named after anyone? I wasn't named after anyone. There are a few names that I was suppose to have, but those names were "stolen" by other women who had their babies before my Mama. My Daddy had some beautiful names picked out for a baby girl. He use to write the names of his future children on a notebook in school. When Mama was pregnant with me there was no way to know if you were having a boy or girl. She had an intuition that she was indeed carrying a baby girl. While she was bathing my sister my name came to her and she asked my sister how she would like to have a baby sister by my name.

2) What color, if any, are your toenails usually painted? My toenails are usually painted two or three different colors in some kind of design. : )

3) How do you flush a public toilet? Hands? Feet? Something else? Oh, I flush that sucker with my foot. I prefer the automatic flushing commodes.

4) When you were a little kid, which TV character did you have a crush on?I had a crush on Scott Baio when he was in Charles in Charge.

5) Let’s say you had to lose one of your five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell). Which one would you choose? Why? If I had to lose one...and that's awful to think about...it would have to be smell.

I wouldn't want to lose my sight because there are too many peoples faces I adore, and I don't want to miss one moment of them growing up, or growing old.

I wouldn't want to lose my hearing because there are too many peoples voices that I adore, and there wouldn't be much of a world to me without music...I wouldn't know what to do without music...

I wouldn't want to lose my sense of touch because there are way too many things I love the feel of...the way a child's hands fits into mine, touching my husband's cheek when he's smiling at me, the sleeve of one of my favorite sweaters, my kitty cats, my Hello Kitty and Disney Fairies blankets, and hugs...hugs are one of my favorite things in this world. What would a hug be like without the sense of touch?

What would food be like without the sense of taste? I know it wouldn't be the same without a sense of smell either, but maybe I wouldn't eat as much. I don't know!

Well, I said my sense smell, but I just thought about something. I would really miss it when my husband kisses me right after he's just "snuck" some food he wasn't suppose to eat at the time...like peanuts, or Reese's cups...I slyly tell him that I know what he's just been into because I smell it on him, and he slyly tells me that he doesn't know what I'm talking about...I would miss that, but since I have to choose...well, I'm doing without it. I guess that since I could still see that same grin he gives me as he walks away, I'll just have to make him do it in other ways. : )

That's all for this weeks edition. Tune in next time...
